Located mid-way up the Maine Coast, Deer Isle and Stonington attracts many visitors throughout the summer and fall seasons. Whether you want to get away from the hustle and bustle of city life and enjoy the peace and tranquility of life by the sea or pack your days full of exploration and adventures, Deer Isle Stonington is your vacation destination.
There are so many things for you to fit into your vacation. Below are some of our recommendations.
Take an afternoon to explore the historical Stonington Village and witness for yourself the working waterfront. Walk through the village and enjoy the shops, art galleries and restaurants. When you are done, be sure to treat yourself to the best lobster you’ve ever tasted at one of the local harborside restaurants such as the famous Fisherman’s Friend www.fishermansfriendrestaurant.com
Take a tour of the Deer Isle Village and visit the galleries, gift shops, coffee shop and photo gallery www.thelestergalleryllc.com . When you’re done, be sure to stop by the famous Harbor Ice Cream Shop and try a flavor of “Maine” ice cream that you’ve never tasted before, such as “Moose Tracks”, “Deer Tracks” or “Maine Black Bear.”
Be sure to take a drive out to Sunshine and visit the Haystack Mountain School of Crafts - a world class workshop for artists. Check the community calender for Haystack Mountain School of Crafts community events throughout the summer.
Take a scenic cruise and learn about Maine’s lobster fishery as the crew members haul strings of lobster traps and narrate their strategies for catching Maine’s favorite food. www.isleauhaut.com
Be sure to check out Old Quarry Ocean Adventures for kayaking, charter boat rides, ferry service, sailing and island camping www.oldquarry.com
Last but not least, make sure you take the time to relax at one of our public beaches, sit by the ocean and let the waves crash over your feet, and just kick back and enjoy nature and life at its best.
